Extreme Smoothies

Blenders are awesome! From memory, I share a regular fruit smoothie recipe I enjoy for a mid morning snack or after physical training. Of course, it's easily modified through the selection of different fruits. And, made without cow milk, you only have to rinse our your blender.

*Smoothies are "blended." The fruits are 'whole' and include their pulp, fiber, etc... Consumed in this manner, you receive the nutritional benefit in the same way you would if you ate the fruit whole. This is not the case with "juicing", which extracts the juice and discards the rest. I most often use fruits for smoothies and vegetables for juicing. Additionally, this is more diabetic friendly, with respect to impact on blood sugars.

Jerry's  Antioxidant Fruit Smoothie
-Soy Milk (1/2 or 1 cup approx) (or almond, rice, etc..)
-3-4 fresh strawberries (tops removed)
-10-15 fresh blueberries
-3-4 frozen cherries
-Frozen mix berries
-1/2 banana or whole
-Tbl spn Udo's Oil
-Tbl spn Chia Seeds

Yeah yeah..I can hear you. "What's Udo's Oil?" What's a chia seed? It's good stuff!

Udo's Oil provides the "good fats" you need. This product has a nutty flavor and you wont taste it in the smoothie.  Although you lose the nutritional value completely, it is also quite fun to lather yourself in Udo's Oil and dance to Lady Ga Ga when nobody is home. (Shut the blinds.)

Chia Seeds are totally fun. You can blend them into your smoothie, or to create what we call "gelatinous goo", you leave some chia seeds in a cup of water over night It turns into a gelatin type of goo...then you can put that in the smoothie! Or drink it or whatever....this isn't new. The Aztecs and Mayans were eating chia long before Whole Foods started carrying it.
